The relation of cardiac effort to myocardial oxygen consumption and coronary flow.

چکیده
The current views of the authors regarding the relationship of the cardiac performance and its myocardial oxygen consumption and the relationship of the latter to coronary blood flow are presented. Recent attempts, including our own, to devise an index of total cardiac effort that will relate to the myocardial oxygen consumption are discussed. It is concluded that the cardiac performance requiring oxygen determines coronarj' flow while the arteriovenous oxygen difference across the bed remains constant. However, the level of the arteriovenous oxygen difference is altered by local conditions of oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations, and the presence of eatecholamines. Hence, the level of coronary flow for a given amount of cardiac oxygen consumption is altered by these circumstances.

Hand Grip Strength and Myocardial Oxygen Consumption Index among Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Patients
Background: Hand grip strength (HGS) is a reliable indicator of peripheral muscle strength. Although, numerous studies have investigated the strength of hand grip; little attention has been given to coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, exploring the relationship between HGS and myocardial oxygen consumption (MVO2) index. The current study aimed to evaluate the interaction between HGS and MVO...

The circulatory responses to high equinalgesic doses of morphine are compared with those of pethidin. The decrease in mean arterial blood pressure in case of morphine was 28p.c., with a paralleled and identical decrease in total peripheral resistance and no negative inotropic effects. Pethidine decreased blood pressure 54p.c., as a result of peripheral vasodilation of 46p.c. and a sharp drop...
متن کاملSynergistic action of myocardial oxygen and carbon dioxide in controlling coronary blood flow.
A two-part experiment was designed to test the hypothesis that myocardial oxygen and carbon dioxide tensions, as measured by coronary venous oxygen and carbon dioxide tensions, determine coronary blood flow during increases in myocardial oxygen consumption. The left main coronary artery was pump-perfused at constant pressure in closed-chest, anesthetized dogs. Oxygenators in the perfusion circu...

OBJECTIVE Introduction and measurement of human myocardial oxygen supply:demand ratio as a reference for quantification of coronary microvascular vasodilating drug effects in clinical studies. Myocardial oxygen consumption is the major determinant of coronary blood flow; therefore, the true vasodilating properties of coronary vasodilating drugs that may have an effect on oxygen consumption cann...
متن کاملRole of adenosine in local metabolic coronary vasodilation.
Adenosine has been postulated to mediate the increase in coronary blood flow when myocardial oxygen consumption is increased. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of adenosine when myocardial oxygen consumption was augmented by cardiac paired-pulse stimulation without the use of catecholamines. In 10 anesthetized closed-chest dogs, coronary blood flow was measured in the left circumfl...
